Welcome! -- first assignment

Hey everybody!

Welcome to campus, new choir members - and welcome back to the veterans! We're going to have a great group of singers this year, and I'm excited about getting started!

This is the choir blog, a place where I can post messages, express thoughts, and ask opinions, and you can post back to let your voice be heard.

Three assignments for you:
1. Click HERE to go to the choir student info form
Fill it out, click "submit"
Please get this done before Thursday morning!

2. Post a comment to this message (click the comment link below the message) - introduce yourself to the choir, tell us where you're from, something interesting about yourself, what you did this summer. Keep it clean! :)

3. We are singing "Sky-Born Music" at opening convocation September 5th and only have two rehearsals! After first rehearsal, go to the Concert Choir web page to access study files for this piece - work on your part before second rehearsal!

Looking forward to a GREAT year!
RCB

I thought I'd start off by letting the new members know some things about me and tell you all what I did this summer.

This is my 12th year at Lambuth. I did my docotrate at Michigan State and also have degrees from the University of Missouri and UNC-Greensboro. My wife is an occupational therapist and works as Director of Rehab Services for the TN State Veterans Home in Humboldt. We have a son, Wesley, who is in 6th grade at Parkview Montessori Magnet School.

I had a GREAT summer! For 3 weeks I performed with the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon. I sing in a 50-voice choir, all paid professional singers, and get a chance to do some solo work as well. This summer we performed the Bach Mass in B Minor, the Mozart Requiem, Haydn Creation Mass, Mozart Mass in C Minor, and 4 Bach cantatas.

Wesley traveled with me to Oregon and attended a day camp which he thoroughly enjoyed. We went camping on the drive out and had a FABULOUS time--we went through Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons, and numerous other sights along the way.

After only about 4 days at home, I flew to Massachusetts to serve on the faculty of the Berkshire Choral Festival for 2 weeks. Each week about 200 singers from all over the country come to the Berkshire School in Sheffield to perform a major work with a big-name conductor and the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. Steven Albart and John Wells came out for the first week on full-tuition scholarship as Berkshire Scholars. They got to perform the Verdi Requiem with Robert Page conducting--you should ask them about their experience. The second week we performed the Mozart Requiem with Jane Glover from England conducting.

It was a very busy but very rejuvenating summer for me. I'm really excited to be back here working with you and look forward to a great fall!

Hey guys,

I'm Matthew Collins, and i'm a sophomore music education major from Memphis, Tennessee. My summer activities included working at a movie theater and volunteering in the Appalachian Mountains for a week that included a whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River.

Any new music majors that have problems in the beginner classes can talk to me, and I can give you a hand.

Also, I will try my hardest to be involved in the school theater department.

hello everyone, my name is Steven Albart and I am a returning music education voice major from good ol' Miami, Florida. Are the hurricanes crazy? yes. lol, me and my buddy John Wells had a blast representing the Lambuth Choral Department in Sheffield, Massechussetts. <--don't know if I spelled that one right. Anyways, it was wonderful. That was probably the only highlight of the summer for me. I worked for the old man this summer transporting okra to the Carolinas, Georgia, and northern Florida. That was pretty neat.

I hope that our choir "raises the bar" this year because I think we have what it takes to be a top notch music school.

Any barbershoppers interested in doing authentic barbershop stuff, let me know. I would like to help flare up the local chapter in Jackson.

Holla!!!

hey, I'm John Wells... I'm a junior, vocal performance major. My parents live in Savannah TN, and I've kinda lived all over the state.

As far as summer goes... Like Dr. Bernhardt said, I went to the Berkshire Choral Festival on a scholarship. I had never been up to new england before, so i drove through all the new england states & then sang at the festival, & I had a real good time doing that.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to a great year in choir & in the music program.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great first day back :) I was sitting at home watching TV when I looked at the clock and realized you were all in choir then and it made me miss you guys a LOT. I sent Erica a text to say hi, so I hope she got it in time and delivered the message.

I've officially been home for just over a week now after my dad and I drove my car across the country. I'm living at home, in my old room so we'll see how that goes...haha. I don't start classes until Sept. 25th so I have 3 and a half weeks left of vacation and since Lambuth let out in late April this year it's been almost 5 months. I'm actually sick of summer vacation, I went to the library on Sunday so I could do something "educational".

Anyway, I hadn't checked the blog in awhile and figured this was the best way to let everyone know that I miss you all and I hope that I'll be able to come visit soon! My boyfriend lives in Florida (he's from WA but he's in the airforce...) and TN is on the way there :) Keep in touch, I'm still on facebook and myspace and I have a blog too. Sing well and have an awesome year! Much love!

Hey! My name is Beth Armistead. I'm from Clarksville,TN and I'm a psych major! This summer I pretty much worked nonstop. I had two jobs: one as a hostess at a resteraunt and one as a tristar rep going basically door to door showing tristars(home cleaning systems). I know it doesn't sound like much fun, but I did enjoy the people I worked with and got to know. I am, however, extremely excited to be back here at lambuth and plan to have a good year!
